Providers in Scotland should refer to the Scottish Childminder Document Checklist / Providers in England should refer to the EYFS Childminder Document Checklist.

NOTE: It is not a legal requirement for all items listed in the checklist to be in written form, for example policies, planning and observations. However, you must still be able to explain the procedures you would follow under certain circumstances. (e.g. how you will safely administer medication? What procedures will you follow if you suspect a child is being abused?) Having a written set of policies and service documents will ensure everyone involved in your service has the information required and will help to avoid any misunderstandings. You must also be able to explain where each child is in their development and what you are doing to support their learning. Recording observations and writing plans can be useful for sharing information with parents, and also to refer back to when providing evidence on inspection.
