👀Visual timetables can benefit children so many ways:

  • Understanding Routine – Visual cues allow children to see what has just happened and what is coming next, so as they can become familiar with and prepare for the daily schedule.
  • Reducing Anxiety – Children can become anxious, which in turn can lead to challenging behaviour, if they do not know the plans for the day or what is going to happen next. This is particularly true of children on the Autistic Spectrum or with additional support needs.
  • Motivation – Where children can see that the next activity is something that they enjoy, this can provide motivation to get through more challenging tasks first. The preferred activity can act as a reward, helping children to overcome difficulties or complete a task before they can they move on to the more enjoyable activity.
  • Transition – Becoming familiar with a new routine and environment is crucial when children start at school, at nursery or begin care in a new setting. Visual timetables allow children to quickly become acquainted with the new structure and routine, helping to further ease the settling in process.
