Getting Ready for School & Supporting Transition

Do you care for little ones who are moving onto school, nursery or even to a new care setting?

These Workbooks and School Activity Pack are packed with fun activities to help prepare children for their new surroundings and look forward to the exciting times ahead.

Complete with children in your setting or put together as a gift for children to take home and do with parents over the summer holidays.

As childcare professionals we have a duty to help children and families prepare for the changes ahead and provide support where we can to ensure a smooth transition.

We can help children prepare for school / nursery in many ways, for example by encouraging self-care skills such as toileting, hand washing, putting coats and shoes on, accompanying children to visit their new school or care setting or even taking a walk past the playground or playing schools. Speaking openly about the changes ahead with parents and with children can also help to reduce any anxieties.

Supporting Transition

It is also vital that practitioners and parents/carers work together when a child transfers to school /nursery or another setting. Any information that can be passed on about a child’s abilities, likes and dislikes, health and any special requirements can make a huge difference in supporting a smooth transition.

These resources are perfect for information sharing between settings to further support transition:
